IPL 2024: SKY to undergo hernia operation overseas, expected to take 8-9 weeks for recovery
The India Cricket Team has been plagued with injuries. A new addition to the list is Suryakumar Yadav, this time with a fresh injury. SKY already suffered an ankle injury in the series against the Proteas and is missing the IND vs AFG series. Adding more concerns, SKY now has hernia which will be operated overseas. SKY is expected to be fit in 8-9 weeks.
The fresh injury addition means SKY will miss the domestic season and won’t play any part in the Ranji Trophy. Though he is expected to be fit by the IPL, reports claim, he might miss the initial phases of the IPL 2024.
Sports hernia is not uncommon among players. It is usually a tear that happens in the groin or the lower abdomen area. SKY currently is at the NCA and he is expected to fly to Germany to get operated.
“SKY was recently diagnosed with sports hernia. He is currently recuperating at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. In two-three days, he will fly for Munich, Germany, to get operated for it. It means that he certainly won’t be playing for Mumbai this season in the Ranji Trophy and is likely to miss the initial games for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL,” a source told The Times of India.
It is expected that SKY will require around 8-9 weeks after his surgery to recover. Which means that he will miss the Ranji Trophy season. Furthermore, it is expected that he might miss the initial phase of IPL 2024.
“After his hernia operation it might take up to eight-nine weeks for him to start training. Hopefully he will be fit during the IPL,” a source in the Indian board informed,” a source told The Indian Express.
