Two Ukrainian soldiers who were on leave in Germany were killed by a Russian who “slit their throats.”
The two Ukrainian soldiers were on medical leave in Germany recuperating from injuries and wee attacked in southern Germany at a shopping centre in Murnau am Stafelsee.
Vicheslav Bezuhlyi, 23, died in hospital and Volodymr Kozin, 36, died at the scene at the shopping centre.
According to the DPA news agency, German police arrested a 57-year-old Russian national at his home over the fatal knife attack.
The two Ukrainian soldiers had been receiving medical rehabilitation care when they were stabbed in the neck, the police said.
German police said in a statement, “Early on Saturday evening, April 27 2024, two men were found with stab wounds on the premises of a shopping centre in Murnau.
“A 36-year-old died from serious injuries on site, the second victim (23 years old) died in a nearby hospital that evening.”
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, “On April 27, two Ukrainian citizens, men born in 1987 and 2001, were killed by stabbing in Murnau am Stafelsee, Bavaria, Germany, at a local shopping centre.
“According to preliminary information, the deceased citizens were military personnel undergoing medical rehabilitation in Germany.”
Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said that no motives are as yet known, it is also not known if the Russian attacker was operating under orders from the Kremlin or if he was acting alone.
