Julian Nagelsmann has told his Germany squad that they can become European champions in the summer.
According to BILD, Nagelsmann stood in front of the team prior to their 2-0 win against France and instilled belief in the squad, telling them: “If we get rolling, we can become European champions.”
After their commanding win against France, which was one of Germany’s best performances in recent years, Nagelsmann wants to take advantage of the wave of euphoria but also warned his players in the dressing room after the game that: “We shouldn’t become arrogant now.”
In his early months as Germany head coach, Nagelsmann has taken positive steps. Also prior to the game against France, he and his assistant, Sandro Wagner, brought each of the 25-man squad individually into their office to clearly convey to the players what role he saw for each of them in the run-up to the tournament.
The return of Toni Kroos is key to the squad, which allows both Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala creative freedom. The duo excelled in the half-spaces behind Kai Havertz against France, and the trio are expected to start against the Netherlands on Tuesday evening.
