By DB InfraGO AG has launched a comprehensive infrastructure programme to renew Germany’s railway network in 2024.
This initiative focuses on enhancing existing infrastructure and stations as part of Deutsche Bahn’s Strong Rail strategy.
In total, the programme will expand, modernise and renew over 2,000 kilometres of tracks, 2,000 switches, 150 bridges, and 1,000 stations, including prominent hubs like Duisburg, Dresden and Munich.

This work will address the ageing of the railway infrastructure to ensure its longevity and operational efficacy. Measures will include infrastructural enhancements such as additional crossing options and signal improvements.
“We are making the railway better – project by project, construction phase by construction phase. For us, orientation towards the common good means that people and the economy in Germany should feel rapid and sustainable improvements in the rail network. To this end, we are renovating many sections throughout Germany – on main routes and in the regional network. In 2024, for the first time in many years, we will succeed in stopping the ageing of the railway infrastructure. DB InfraGO is faster, more efficient and more powerful.”
A crucial aspect of the programme includes renovating the Riedbahn corridor between Frankfurt/Main and Mannheim, with work set to commence in July. This is the first of 40 corridors identified by DB for renovation into a high-performance network by 2030.
Throughout 2024, this programme is supported by investments totalling 16.4 billion EUR from DB, the federal government and the states.
