Alexander Nübel is one of four goalkeepers called up to Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad for Euro 2024. The 27-year-old has never been a part of the German national team setup before but is enjoying a phenomenal season with Stuttgart, helping the Swabian club to qualify for Champions League football for the first time since 2010.
Unexpecting to be nominated for the national team for next month’s tournament, Nübel had a safari planned in Tanzania.
“It was very surprising for me. I got the news on Tuesday evening. My vacation was already planned, but of course I’m happy to cancel it now,” said Nübel. “It means a lot to me to be there for Germany. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone and taking in the VfB atmosphere – just having a great time and experiencing a great summer.”
A testament to Stuttgart’s season, only Bayern Munich (6) had more nominations than VfB (5). With a return to European football, Nagelsmann has called upon quintet Waldemar Anton, Maximilian Mittelstädt, Chris Führich and Deniz Undav, alongside Nübel, for Euro 2024.
